Demanding Applications

Occasionally, a customer will come to DisCom with an inquiry that requires extensive design work and validation as to avoid issues in the field. DisCom works closely with our customers to ensure the application is thoroughly understood to guarantee that a solution meets the design requirements from the very beginning.

DisCom was faced with the challenge to design a clamp that was able to handle temperatures higher than common materials could handle. By implementing an additional component comprised of ceramic, the clamp skin temperature was reduced. This addressed three things:

• Exotic/expensive materials were eliminated to keep the clamp cost low.
• Safety concerns were eliminated as the clamp became the one of the lower temperature components on the exhaust system.
• Exhaust temperatures can remain consistent due to the insulating aspect of the clamp, thereby eliminating risk of emissions concerns.

Our customer has moved forward with the following design and has had no quality/design issues since it went into production in 2019.
